What’s on at Foodservice Australia 2019
Australia’s only dedicated trade show for the hospitality industry, Foodservice Australia, is home to some of the nation’s most prestigious competitions, as well as a wide range of specialist exhibits, seminars and workshops.
Being held at a new venue, Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre on 23-25 June, the show will host over 400 exhibitor stands, showcasing food and beverage products, catering and baking equipment, hospitality technology, entertainment, furniture and fittings, and much more.
The following exciting events will be taking place during the show:
National Restaurant Conference
Monday 24 June
Discover new ideas to improve their menus, marketing, staffing and bottom line at the National Restaurant Conference, supported by Restaurant & Catering Australia and sponsored by Rational, OpenTable and Australian Pork.
Industry leaders and legends sharing their knowledge include Dr Bri Williams from People Patterns, Matt Wilkinson from Pope Joan, Jo Barrett from Oakridge Wines, Andy Mullins from Hotel Esplanade, Jerry Mai from Annam, Steven Rogers from The Pie Shop, Melissa Pepers from Bonbo, Peter Wright from Global Hospitality Group, Eleena Tan from Brand-Smart, Ken Burgin from Silver Chef, Howard Tinker from Restaurant Profits and many more.
In addition, one of Melbourne’s foremost restaurateurs, Chris Lucas from the Lucas Group will give a special presentation on what it will take to succeed in hospitality in the next ten years.

Aged Care Catering Summit
Tuesday 25 June
To be held in Melbourne for the first time, this important event is aimed directly at general managers, catering managers, chefs, facility managers, nutritionists, commercial caterers, consultants, suppliers and all those working in aged care hospitality.
Delegates will hear from industry leaders on how to make changes, how to improve their business offering as well as the bottom line. Topics include kitchen efficiency, the changing face of the dining room, nutrition, managing consistency, compliance, food trends and innovation in equipment and technology.

Chef of the Year
23-25 May
The prestigious Chef of the Year returns hotter than ever in 2019, with 32 finalists battling against the clock and each other to produce their best dishes.
This competition is proudly presented by Gold Sponsors Unox Australia, Australian Pork and Anchor Food Professionals, plus silver sponsors PFD, Sous Vide, Simco, Alsco and Ecolab. Visitors to the show can watch the action every day from stadium-style seating at the centre of the show.
The Chef of the Year competition is one of the most rewarding in the country, with a total prize pool of $10,000 cash and prizes from industry sponsors.

Battle of the Pacific Restaurant Challenge
24-25 June
This exciting two-day contest organised by the Australian Culinary Federation (ACF) is being held in Melbourne at Foodservice Australia for the first time. Eight teams will compete to prepare a two-course lunch to be served in their own 40-seat restaurant on the show floor.
There will be teams from each state of Australia as well as New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

The Sweet Spot
23-25 June
The latest trends in bakery and desserts will take centre stage at The Sweet Spot, right at the entrance to Foodservice Australia.
Hosted by Nerida Conway and sponsored by Confeta, Apromo and Unox, this exciting new demonstration stage will showcase chocolate, confectionery, gelato and patisserie, with free hourly presentations aimed at bakers, patissiers, and chefs looking to sweeten up their menu.
Presenters include the likes of The Sugar Florist Timothea Ridgewell, Executive Pastry Chef Pierrick Boyer, Chocolate Artisan Jessica Pedemont and award-winning patissier Santiago Cuyugan from Bibelot.

Global Pastry Chef
23 June
The Global Chefs Challenge Pacific Rim Regional Semi-Finals will take place at the show on Sunday. Teams from around the Pacific will be vying for a coveted opportunity to compete at the finals during the 2020 Worldchefs Congress in St. Petersburg, Russia. There are three categories – Global Chef, Global Young Chef and Global Pastry Chef. Come and cheer on the Aussies!

Café School
23-25 June
Café, sandwich bar, takeaway and deli operators can learn how to make the most of the boom in the daytime dining and food-to-go sectors at the Café School.
Sponsored by Lavazza, Freedom Foods, Parmalat and Mission Foods, this year the Café school will feature coffee masterclasses, café menu ideas, and the latest lunch and breakfast trends.
Visitors can also stay ahead of the flavour curve with free demonstrations of Mission Foods’ latest wrap, roti and naan bread products, while Milklab will demonstrate delicious smoothies using plant-based milks.

Specialty Producers Pavilion
The ever-popular Specialty Producers Pavilion returns to Melbourne in 2019, with a selection of boutique suppliers from around Australia showcasing their unique produce.
Visitors looking for new ideas for their restaurant, cafe, bakery or commercial kitchen can literally taste all the new ideas and meet the producers behind the product.
Entry to the show is free if you pre-register online. However you must be over 16 and work in the food or hospitality industry.
